My name is Helen Simpkins and I am the Nursery Manager here at Scotts Wood Day Nursery.
I have worked here at Scotts Wood since 2001 and am very proud to be the manager of such a beautiful and high quality ‘early years’ setting and am committed to further improving our already very high standards, creating an exceptional ‘early years’ experience for babies and young children here in the leafy suburbs of West Bridgford.
Early years as always been my passion and while working here at Scotts Wood I have completed both a Foundation Degree in Early Years and Education and BA Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies - and I use my extended knowledge and understanding daily to ensure that we provide the very best environments and experiences for both our children and their parents.
I believe in the importance of providing a warm and homely environment in which children can develop and flourish and where parents are always made to feel welcome and encouraged to join in their child’s learning journey. Our beautiful nursery provides distinct areas for our babies through to our pre-school children, providing stimulating experiences and activities both indoors and outdoors.
We occupy a large detached Edwardian nursery in West Bridgford, just minutes from Nottingham City Centre, with our own outdoor play space.
It’s hard to find a day nursery in West Bridgford - or the surrounding area - with wonderful facilities for both indoor and outdoor play. Situated on the corner of Selby Road and Devonshire Road, our West Bridgford nursery has both, and we’ve incorporated lots of information about our facilities on our Our Nursery page, and lots of photos of our children at play throughout our website. Thank you to our parents for granting their permission for us to share these photos. We also have a ‘sister’ nursery on Radcliffe Road - details can be found on their website www.radclifferoaddaynursery.co.uk - and they operate to the same principles and standards as us.
Our philosophy and practice
We’ve taken care to explain our approach to childcare in some detail on our Caring For Your Child page. I think that this is particularly important, as not every West Bridgford nursery operates in the same way. We explain our ‘Key Person Approach’ and how this enables us to know both you and your child really well – and better meet your child’s needs. We also explain how our nursery and outdoor environments contribute to your child’s development with us.
Here at Scotts Wood we have a great partnership with parents – working closely to ensure that we are meeting their individual needs. I strongly believe in creating warm, caring and friendly environments, where children and their families feel cared for, valued and loved - and where they can genuinely feel at home. As children’s primary educators, the relationships we build with parents are as important as the relationships we build with our children. These relationships create a ‘home from home’ atmosphere and help children to feel safe and secure, leaving them free to immerse themselves in play.
We’ve tried to include as much information as possible here on our website, and you’ll find much of it on our Parent Information page. I believe we’re the only West Bridgford nursery to open from 8 am – 6 pm, Monday – Friday for 51 weeks of the year (we close during Christmas week) and offer a variety of sessions to suit most family’s individual needs at competitive and inclusive prices. We also offer FREE childcare places for ALL 3 and 4 year old children (and many 2 year olds), and include nutritious ‘home cooked’ lunches and teas – the details of which are all explained on this page.
The best day nursery in West Bridgford
Of course it’s natural to be proud of your nursery when you work with a team who strive to provide wonderful care to children every day - and I’m no exception. I truly believe that alongside our ‘sister’ nursery on Radcliffe Road, Scotts Wood is the best nursery in West Bridgford. I hope that our parent testimonials bear this out - and you may enjoy reading our latest OFSTED Report.
Finally, while we regard Scotts Wood as a West Bridgford nursery, we also have many parents who use us from the wider Nottingham area – particularly from local villages. You’ll find a map showing our location on our Contact Us page - as well as our contact details. If we look as though we could provide a childcare solution for you, then we’d love to see you at the nursery and show you around - so please give us a call on 0115 981 2980 or pop in to see us, and meet our team.
